      “No. That will never happen to me. I’m better than that.” These are the profound words uttered by this writer when her elementary school principal discovered that she was pregnant at the tender age of 13. She had just been told that she would end up “Just another negative welfare statistic.”          The young teen was an honor roll student and had gotten pregnant the same day she lost her virginity. Today she is 69. Her son is 56. Much has happened over the past 50 years. Her name continues to be on the “honor roll.” But one roll she has never been on is the welfare roll. Instead, she has established programs to get mothers off the welfare rolls.           When you look at this woman’s life, two words come to mind: “Courage” and “Survivor.” She has survived childhood abandonment, abuse and teen pregnancy, emotional and domestic violence in her first failed marriage, alcoholism, and a family history of mental illness. The Scripture of the Week was Ecclesiates 3:1-11, which talks about the seasons for the activities under the Heavens. Do you know which season you are in?
